Thought for the Day

February 27th, 2010

Expect DelaysIt's not easy designing a website. Whilst HTML is not that difficult to master, it still requires a tremendous degree of self motivation and technical knowledge in order to perfect it. What you're looking at at the moment is the result of just under a year's work, and, as you can see, I haven't exactly gotten that far.

Technically, we could chalk that up to my generic lack of self motivation just as much as to the technical difficulties of web design. Still, it took me ten minutes to try and figure out how to make this box work, and it turned out the answer was a simple '2' missing from a div tag. That's web design for you: the smallest mistake can mean the biggest difference.

Still once you really get into it, it can and is a hell of a lot of fun. Look around more modern websites today, and you'll see just exactly one can do with decent knowledge. Web design, and by extension IT in general I guess, is one of the most under-appreciated and under-estimated profressions around. Whilst the market is in danger of over-saturation at the moment, everyone needs IT people. Whether it's to design/maintain a company website, to making sure everyone's computers are working, there is a constant need for IT in todays business world. It's amazing what you can do with just a little bit of knowledge.

Anyway, today's thought was generated out of a desire to add a more personal touch to the main page, as well as keep you more thoroughly informed as to what I'm doing. A lot changes going on in my life right now, but I'm trying to make more time for this project, and I hope to finish it soon.

Until next time...
